Bored, overwhelmed, or confused
by the onslaught of booths, brochures, gadgets, and gimmickry at CES?
There are a couple of alternative events you may want to check out that
are happening in Sin City at the same time. This year, there will be two
-- count 'em two -- tradeshows dedicated to the world of adult
entertainment not far from the Las Vegas Convention Center.
The first is CES' own Adult Category exhibit area at the Riviera, and the other is Internext, billed as the world's largest adult Internet/Audiotext tradeshow at the Sands Expo Center.
Not just dirty pictures Make no mistake, these are not exhibits showcasing exhibitionists. Instead, CES Adult and Internext feature the geeky side of the flesh trade. Expect new developments in secure transactions, age verification systems, media buying, and Internet billing technologies that address the needs of a typical e-commerce company. There will also be lots of content-oriented products like streaming media applications, search tools, and interactive software ("to enhance the viewing experience for the end-user").
Gadgets galore As in CES' main event, there will also be a cornucopia of toys for big girls and boys. CES Adult has some pretty interesting goodies for the daring consumer. Wouldn't you like to participate in a product demo for the Body Double ("Make your own Rubber Body part! Safe, easy, and fun! Create a highly detailed, life-size copy of your favorite hand, or other body part with one of these simple to use kits.")?
Or you could be a voyeur and bring home a sample, complete with a spec sheet. The exhibitors' giveaways will surely spice up your tradeshow tchotchke collection, too. There's nothing like having a Femguard Tissue Shield mousepad share space with an Intel Pentium plush toy and a Microsoft stress ball in your cube.
And of course, the parties Judging from Internext's press release, its exhibitors promise some of the more colorful nocturnal festivities that weekend. Here's a sampler: Naughty Nurses at the House of Blues sponsored by Adultcash, High Rollers Bash at the Venetian hosted by Cybererotica, and Presidential Hospitality Suite at the Venetian courtesy of BabeNet. Just visit the exhibitors' booths for complimentary tickets to a few nights of fun. Fetishists of Dockers, boat shoes, PDAs, cell phones, and pagers can only add sizzle to these merry mixers.
Still the Internet's great success story Double entendres aside, the fact that there are two adult-themed tradeshows occurring simultaneously is a testament to the success that this industry has become. In a day when most Internet companies are struggling with profitability and business models, adult-oriented Web commerce is boasting annual sales of $1.5 billion. Not only that, the industry is known to lead in the adoption of cutting edge Web technology.
So if another pitch from Bill or Craig or Barry doesn't get you all hot and bothered, maybe a trip to these two events will. But if you can't digress from your tradeshow schedule (or simply too nervous to drop your business card in BabeNet's fishbowl), TechTV will be there to bring you the action. |
